Wayne Howard Stewart, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, after a determined battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Franklin, NC, he was the son of the late Harley and Pearl Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jean Duvall Stewart, and by a brother, Harley Moore Stewart. He is survived by three sons; Wayne Howard Stewart, Jr., Robert M. Stewart and wife Denise, and Russell T. Stewart and wife Melonie; a sister, Jessie Ruth “Tootsie” Williams; six grandchildren, Alysia, Brianna, Brooke, Dakota, Steffanie and Thomas; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Wayne spent many years dairy farming, and always enjoyed his livestock, which, in addition to cattle, included Boer goats and Tennessee Walking Horses, but at times also included wild hogs, deer and a screech owl. Later, he retired from the construction business after working on major infrastructure projects throughout the region. He was a devoted sports fan, particularly football and basketball, and enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, often spending nights with his friends and dogs experiencing the chase. His many friends knew Wayne for his humor, generosity and helpfulness.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22 and services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, May 23, both at Macon Funeral Home.
