Jon Harris  McGarity
Jon H. McGarity of Franklin, North Carolina passed away Friday, February 13, 2015.

Born in Miami, FL he was the son of the late Harris McGarity and Martha Jane McKinney.
Jon was with 3M Co. for 32 years living in Miami, Atlanta, Dallas and Washington, DC. He retired to Franklin, North Carolina. He traveled widely and was the Director of Government Affairs in Washington, DC for 3M's Occupational Health and Safety Products Division. Family came first with Jon, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a very active member of the St. John's Episcopal Church. He was also very active in his neighborhood and in the Franklin Community at large. Jon and Marcia volunteered at CareNet for 9 years where they spearheaded the Backpack program for children in need in Macon County.

He is survived by his wife, sidekick, co-dreamer and faithful companion of 57 years, Marcia Elizabeth Hitt McGarity. Their three children, Wendy Johnson and husband Peter of San Diego, CA, Scott McGarity and wife Denise of Dallas, TX, and Ann Harper and husband John of Ijamsvile, MD. His seven beloved grandchildren; Taylor Ann Johnson, Alexandra Elizabeth Johnson, Ryley Harper, McGarity Harper, Arianna McGarity, Jon Keegan McGarity, Declan Hoyt McGarity and several nieces and nephews. Also many wonderful friends who became family from all the places Jon and Marcia lived.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 28, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Carl Southerland will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 542 St. John's Church Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
