Obituary for Conley Bascom Shope

Conley Bascom  Shope
Conley Bascom Shope, 91, of Otto, NC, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016.

Born in Clayton, GA, he was the son of the late Fred and Maud Conley Shope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hastings Shope; son, James Bascom Shope; brothers, Joseph, John, Ed Lake, Jess Shope and Frank McCall; and sister, Mary Shope, along with infant brothers and sisters. He was the last of twelve children.

Conley served in the CCC Camp in Smokemont. He was a US Army veteran, serving in the Normandy Invasion during WWII. He was a logger, farmer and retired maintenance worker for Rabun Mills, GA. Conley was a member of Coweeta Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Jacqueline Maitre and husband, Erick of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Oberah Williams and husband, David of Gainesville, GA; son, Conley Fred Shope of Otto, NC; Jennifer Nations who he thought of as a daughter; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April15, 2016 at Coweeta Baptist Church. Rev. Davis Hooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Shope, Mickey Mason, Keith Jenkins, LeRoy Chastain, Rocky Williams and Jason Givens.
