Harris Lafayette Sanders, 93, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015.

Born in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Jess Sanders and Ida Shope Sanders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Elura Bell Walters, Edith Conley, Willa Stiles and Margaret Harrison; brothers, Charles Sanders, Sonny Sanders and Jimmy Sanders and half-brother, Timothy Sanders. Harris was a US Navy veteran; serving during WWII as an electrician. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club from 1961-1979 and President in 1966. He had his 1st class Ham Radio Amateur license and served as Deacon since 1939 and SS Superintendent with Prentiss Baptist Church in Franklin, Old Town Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC and Burningtown Baptist Church in Franklin. He was also an acvtive member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC. Harris enjoyed raising honey bees and working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pauline Wild Sanders; two daughters, Susan S. Jefford and husband Clayton of Tell City, IN and Pamela S. Waters and husband Dean of Greenville, SC; grandsons, Benjamin R. Waters, Patrick D. Waters, Bradley H. Waters, Dustin S. Jefford and wife Molly, and Logan N. Jefford and wife Sarah; granddaughter, Ashley J. Biever and husband David; two great grandchildren, Liam and Wyatt Biever; brother, Jay Sanders of Franklin; sisters, Betty Owens of Charlotte, NC and Olivia “Tootsie” Reece of Anderson, SC; half-sister, Amelia Trull of Fletcher, NC and aunt, Mildred Swafford of Franklin.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 3rd in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Dr. Barry Jimmerson will officiate. Military funeral honors will be presented by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. Burial will be in Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Jefford, Logan Jefford, Benjamin Waters, Patrick Waters, Bradley Waters and David Biever.
