Obituary for Monica Beattie (Wall)

Monica Wall Beattie, 86, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Born in Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Wall and Louisa Scheick Wall. Monica graduated with a BSED from Barry College and taught in the Dade County Public Schools.

Monica was a life member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and served on the Board of Directors for the state of Florida for 20 years. She also served as chairman for the State Judges Council.

She was a leader in the Miami-Dade County Garden Clubs serving as President of the County Council of Garden Clubs as well as president of Ken Pines Garden Club. Monica was a Master flower show judge and taught floral arranging. She had designs featured in the State of Florida Garden Club calendar.

After moving to Franklin, she was a past president of the Franklin Garden Club and a board member of the North Carolina Board of Garden Clubs.

She was a past president of the auxiliary at Franklin Mission Hospital where she volunteered for 15 years. She also volunteered at Friends of the Library Bookstore. Monica was a member of the Nantahala Hiking Club and the Macon County Master Gardener Volunteer Association. Monica enjoyed floral design, gardening, embroidery and RV travel.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Roger Beattie; daughter, Ann Beattie Dishman (Charles) of Daytona Beach, FL; son, William Andrew Beattie of Naples, FL; and a brother, Richard Dillon Wall (Jo) of Tallahassee, FL.

There will be an internment service on May 16, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church’s Columbarium on White Oak Street. Followed by a reception at the church’s Tartan Hall at 2 p.m.
