Obituary for Joyce "Mam-maw" Southard (Ramey)

Joyce "Mam-maw"  Southard (Ramey)
Joyce Juna Ramey Southard at 88 years old went home to see Jesus on February 12, 2018. A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late V. C. & Willie Grist Ramey. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Howard W. Southard of Franklin who was a faithful and loving husband to her for 68 precious years. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Wooten and husband Bruce and one son, Steven H. Southard and wife Cheryl all of Franklin. She has 4 grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished Adrienne Finn, Tiffany Hurst, and Cody Southard and wife Whitney all of Franklin and Kayla Fenoglio and husband Taylor of Pensacola, FL. Also, one great grand-son, Jaydison Hurst of Franklin.

She is also survived by one beloved sister Dorothy Bearden of Cumming, GA and one beloved brother, Prince M. (Mack) Ramey and wife Mary of Broken Arrow, OK. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Claude C. Ramey and wife Kathleen and Carlyle J. Ramey, Sr. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Evelyn Ramey of Franklin and several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

She was a founding and current member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Franklin for 43 years. She was a faithful pastor’s wife for many years of service. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working at Victory Christian School of Sylva, NC. Her hobbies included reading, crafting for bible school, teaching and camping at Standing Indian. Her most time-consuming hobby was helping raise 4 grandchildren. She spent many hours with her grandchildren making memories that will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends at Macon Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 14th. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on her 89th birthday, Thursday, February 15th at 2:00 p.m with Rev. Nathan Johnson, Rev. Rusty Wolfrey and Rev. Albert Grey officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Benny Hampton, Dewey Elliott, Richard Salmonson, Cody Southard, Taylor Fenoglio and Adam Hurst. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church of Franklin.

“Mam-maw, we don’t say goodbye to you, but so long for now, we’ll see you on the other side of life in that beautiful place called Heaven. Thank you for being a wonderful Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. You will be missed.”
