Obituary for William "Bill" Scott Smith

William "Bill"  Scott  Smith
William “Bill” Scott Smith, 84, of Franklin, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018.
Born in Homestead, FL, he was the son of the late Scott Ivan Smith and Fannie Morgan Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Eileen Smith. Bill retired after 35 years from Florida Power and Light. He was a former member of the Agricultural Council of Dade County, former member of Homestead Chamber of Commerce and member of the Florida City Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was an avid orchid grower. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Billie Jean Carpenter Smith; two children, William Steven Smith and wife Janet of Lewisville, NC and Candace Gale Hoppner of Winston Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Caroline Smith Holtmann and husband Andrew, Kathryn Smith Alexander and husband Hal and Melissa Hoppner Beasley and husband Ronald; two great grandchildren, Chase Holtmann and Mary Elizabeth “Liza” Holtmann.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20th at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bethel UMC Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
