Obituary for Billy Mashburn

Billy Mashburn
Billy Mashburn, 65, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 surrounded by his family after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Billy was born December 5, 1951, and was the son of the late Roy Mashburn and Blanche Oliver Mashburn.

Billy was a graduate of Franklin High School and Southwestern Community College with degrees in Business Administration and Paralegal Technology. He attended Clemson University and remained a lifelong Clemson fan. He began his paralegal career in the 1970’s with Jones, Jones and Key in Franklin. He later worked at law firms in Highlands and Sylva before retiring from the Law Firm of Russell Bowling in 2014 when his health declined due to his cancer. He was also a member of the Franklin Board of Aldermen (now Franklin Town Council) beginning August 3, 1992 when he was sworn in to fill the unexpired term of Mac Whitaker. He later ran successfully in 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013 and was currently on the ballot for the 2017 election. During this tenure on the town board he served on several committees and previously held the position of Vice-Mayor for The Town of Franklin. Billy loved his time serving on the Franklin Town Board, and he had a passion for the water and sewer infrastructure. He was instrumental in the construction of the water and wastewater treatment plants. He loved his town, and the friends he made during his tenure. Billy attended South Macon Baptist Church in Franklin.

He is survived by his wife of almost 28 years, Dinah Roper Mashburn, Daughter, Jenna Mashburn on Asheville, NC, Stepson, Justin Setser and wife, Kara of Franklin and one granddaughter, Andi Setser of Franklin. He also leaves behind his loving pets, Bella and Lily.
