Obituary for Elizabeth "Boots" Bates (Welch)

Elizabeth "Boots" Bates (Welch)
Elizabeth “Boots” Bates, 80, formerly of Franklin, passed away Aug. 9, 2017 at her residence with her son and her “angel” Tillena by her side.
She was born in Burningtown on Oct. 3, 1936 to Carl and Oleta Welch. Elizabeth was known as “Boots” by everyone who loved her.
Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, her laughter and joking around, will never be forgotten.
Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. From the very beginning, she dedicated herself to God and encouraged others to explore the beauty of the Gospel. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator and her loving husband, Leonard Bates, and her parents.
Elizabeth “Boots” Bates is survived by her son, Terry Bates, and her “angel,” Tillena Richardson from Franklin; her three sisters, Joyce Elliott, Evanell Suttle and Jean Blaine; one grandchild; two-great-grandchildren, Kylie Bates and Cole Bates; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Leonard Bates, and her parents and brother.
Visitation is from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12 at Macon Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m., followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Macon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
