Obituary for James "Cole" Coleman Stamey

James "Cole" Coleman Stamey
James Coleman “Cole” Stamey, 31, of Franklin, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017.
Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of James Scott Stamey and Cynthia Dowdle Stamey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by grandparents, Sherill and Mary Ellen Stamey and Mark and Judy Dowdle; his brother, Tyler Stamey (Alison) of Sylva and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There were many things that Coleman enjoyed in his life and many things he did well. Among the most important was reading; he was an avid reader, incredibly smart and during the many conversations he shared with friends and family some might even say philosophical. His love for movies, his extensive movie collection, and his ability to quote nearly every movie he had ever seen will be remembered. A taste for “real country music” and a respect for guns paid tribute to his southern roots. To those lucky enough to know him, he was often the funniest person they knew; there was never a dull moment with Cole. Always greeted with a warm embrace and a genuine smile, his heart was truly reflected by his physical appearance; he was a big man with an even bigger heart. As many people knew, Cole had his share of struggles. We are not naïve by remembering the good but his struggles did not define him nor his life. He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his kindness, his humor and his heart. He was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, but most of all, Coleman was a child of God. He is now free of all his struggles and through the pain we rejoice in knowing we will be together again one day.
