Obituary for Doreen Lynn Miller

Doreen Lynn Miller passed away at Solace Center in Asheville, NC on June 20, 2017 following and extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mildred Miller. Doreen retired from the USDA Forest Service after having worked in the Nanahala National Forest. Her focus was managing wetlands and wildlife. Previously, she worked for the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Doreen graduated from Duke University with a degree in biology and received her Master’s Degree from Auburn University in wild life biology.
She loved the outdoors and traveled extensively to locations in the United States, the Caribbean, Central America, and Galapagos Islands to observe all types of wildlife and birds. On some of her trips, she also did trail riding on horseback, scuba and snorkel diving to observe underwater life.
She is survived by her sister Deborah Gentry, niece Caitlyn Gentry Griffith, nephew Matthew Gentry, aunts JoAnn Curry (John), and Rebecca Jean Bombich (Tony), uncle Robert Greenlee, numerous cousins, and also her fur babies, Tobie and Sasha.
A memorial service honoring her will be held on July 22, 2017 at Macon Funeral Home in Franklin, NC at 2 PM.
