Obituary for Shane Joseph Tastinger

Shane Joseph  Tastinger
Shane Joseph Tastinger, 13, of Otto, passed away, May 11, 2017.

Born in Raleigh, NC, he was the son of John and Julie Tastinger. Shane was a student at Macon Middle School, member of the Franklin F.A.S.T. Swim Team; member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he was active in the youth group and was an altar server. Shane played piano, enjoyed video games, loved science and inventing things, was a NY Giants fan and loved animals. He was quick witted, had a great sense of humor and got along with everyone. Shane was a very giving young man; even in his death he saved lives through organ donation.

Shane was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Judy Haire. He is survived by his parents, John and Julie Tastinger; brother, John Tastinger, II; two sisters, Anna Tastinger and Matilda Tastinger; paternal grandparents, Tom and Jeanne Tastinger and Vickie O’Day; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Carla Haire; aunts and uncles, Alisha Woodard (Michael), Marci Holland (Robby), Jackie Whiteside (Jay), Tommy Tastinger (Wynell), Christy Young, Brooke Smith (James), Jason Tastinger, Ryan O’Day, Adam O’Day, Jeanna Justice (Mike), Thomas Woolbright (JuliaMarie) and Kimberly Murphy (Matt); and numerous cousins and extended family also survive.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 299 Maple Street, Franklin, NC 28734. Father Tien Duong will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Following the committal service, everyone is invited to Bloemsma Farm, 1145 Patton Road, Franklin, NC 28734, for a bereavement luncheon and celebration of life.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Woodard, Robby Holland, Jay Whiteside, Tommy Tastinger, Jason Tastinger, James Smith and Thomas Woolbright.

EMS, First Responders and local law enforcement will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
