Obituary for Norman "Norm" Edward Roberts

Norman "Norm" Edward Roberts
On Tuesday, May 9th, 2017, Norman Edward Roberts, 84 left his earthly bonds and flew into the arms of Jesus on the wings of faith. He was born on March 25, 1933, to O.M. and Easter Roberts, the fifth of six children. He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings, as well as his first wife, Shirley. He is survived by his second wife, Joyce Gribble Roberts and three beloved stepchildren, Angela Gardiner (Bill), Pamela Newell, and Andy Newell (Kim); as well as five adored step-grandchildren, Sarah and Liam Gardiner and Murray, Caleb and Anna Grace Newell.
After two years of college, Norman joined the Naval Cadet program and became a Marine pilot. He was passionate about the Marines and qualified on two airplanes for night time carrier landings. After the military, he worked as an air traffic controller for the FAA.
Norman’s joy was in serving the Lord and he loved meeting new people and talking with them about Jesus and salvation. He and Joyce held an in-home Bible study with a group who called themselves “the forever family”. Being a strong “Grace guy”, he loved to teach on God’s Grace. One of his greatest accomplishments was his and Shirley’s mentoring of young people while living in Florida. Some of them still call him “Papa Norm”. He was an elder in both Grace and Cornerstone EPC churches in Franklin. He was a life-long Republican and served as Macon County GOP Chairman at one time.
The family is most grateful to Grandview Manor Care Center for the loving and compassionate care they gave Norman over the past few years.
