Obituary for John "Ick" Howard Myers

John Howard “Ick” Myers, 90, of Pontiac Michigan, passed away on Thursday, May 4th after an extended period of declining health. Born in Jackson County, Ick was the son of the late James Lawrence and Bertha Cope Myers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Philip “Casey” Myers and a sister, Betty Jo Myers Crawford.

Ick was known for his athletics in high school. He was on the first Franklin Panthers team in 1943. He was equally as good in baseball and was asked to join the Tulsa Oilers which was the farm team for the St Louis Cardinals however he declined. He watched all sports on TV and could tell you stats from any year. His favorite past time was going to the horse track. Ick left Franklin after high school and moved to Michigan. He was then drafted into the service where he served in the US Army. After the Army, he returned to Michigan and began work for General Motors where he worked until he retired.

He is survived by brothers, George Myers (Betty) of Rowlett, TX and Bob Myers, (Shirley) of Franklin, NC sisters, Dixie Holland, (Joe), Franklin, NC and Sue Stewman (Ronnie), Brevard, NC and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13th in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Scott Holland will officiate. VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will conduct military rites.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Holland, Tracy Myers, Dennis Myers, Kevin Stewman, Mark Cook and Ed Bresnahan.
