Obituary for Paul Dillard Seagle

Paul Dillard Seagle, 84, of Brevard, proud veteran of the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, peacefully met his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 27 after an extended illness. Paul was born in Jackson County and moved to Brevard when he
was 18 years old to work at Olin Matheson Corporation, where he worked for 33 years. While at Olin, he helped to establish and was President of Local 1971, United Papermakers and Paperworkers Union, which was instrumental in helping hundreds of employees receive fair wages and benefits. Paul actively pursued the formation of Ecusta Credit Union, another benefit for the local economy, community, and Ecusta employees. He retired from Ecusta Paper after continuing to serve as a Management Supervisor there. Never one to sit idly, he then went on to start Paul’s Lawn Service, which he ran until 6 months before his death. Paul served as two time Chairman of the Transylvania Democratic Party and was actively involved in civic participation in county and state governmental elections. Paul and Linda attended Mud Creek Baptist Church, in Hendersonville, NC. Preceding Paul in death were his parents Lon and Artie Jones Seagle, twin brother
Silas Seagle, and sister Jettie Cope. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Linda Moody Seagle, one son, Wesley Adkins and wife Sherry of Seneca, SC, daughters Rhonda King of Hendersonville, Cheryl Eller and husband Vaughn Eller of Brevard, Sue Wagner and husband Herbert of Swannanoa, and Beth Seagle of Waynesville. Eight grandchildren and eight great-granchildren, who all loved their “Pa” are also surviving. Great-grandchild number nine, who is Paul’s namesake, will be born in July of this year. Surviving also are brother Donald Seagle of Franklin, NC, and sisters Blanche Brooks of Elkin, NC, and Magalene Buchanan of Franklin, NC.
