Obituary for James "Sid" Davis

James "Sid"  Davis
James “Sid” Davis, 80, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016.

Born in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Martha Ann Ford Davis and Sidney “Doc” Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Reva McBroom, Cleo Douberley and brother, Emerson Louvoid “Bo” Davis.

When Sid was younger he rode bulls in Rodeo’s; went into the Army 4th Armored Tank Division. After the Army he joined the Dade County Sheriff’s office as a deputy sheriff. He was with them for 27 years. During his time with the Sheriff’s Department, he was a motorcycle cop for 8 ½ years. They had a drill team and in the Orange Bowl Parade plus many more specialized events. In 1962 Sid was instrumental in transferring officers from the FOP to the PBA. He was on the first Board of Directors. Sid loved to hunt the Everglades for deer with his pack of dogs.

Sid was instrumental in helping with BBQ’s on the square in Franklin. One summer he brought in $10,000 for the Cowee Volunteer Fire/Rescue. He also helped them get their first fire truck from Dade County.

Sid and Loretta have been married 27 years. He has four children, Jimmy Myles and wife Deborah, Mark Myles and wife Karen, Pam Runkle and Jason Davis and wife Angie; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Charlotte, Hannah, Lauren, Cameron, Brandon, Zackery, Jazmyne and Donovan; and two sisters, Verna Joyner and Margie Blaskovich. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Daisy.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29, at Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Potts will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with graveside honors conducted by the Cowee Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, at Macon Funeral Home.
