Obituary for James "Jim" Hughes

James "Jim"  Hughes
James “Jim” Hughes, 80, of Franklin, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Joe and Lizzie Shields Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Burch and a brother, David “Monk” Hughes. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran; retired from Master Builders and was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a talented musician and collector of string instruments. Jim mastered the Dobro, people loved to hear him play, it was said he could make it talk. Jim loved his family and really enjoyed the Christmas season.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Evelyn Dean Hughes; daughter, June Angel and husband, Doug of Franklin; four sisters, Lois Ray, Phyllis Dale and Faye Higdon all of Franklin and Judy Anderson of Warsaw, NC; two brothers, Frank Hughes of Clayton, GA and Billy Hughes of Franklin; grandchildren, Jennifer and Rodney; great grandchildren, Seth, Brittany, Clara and Sophia and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 23, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Dusek will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the service.
