Mitchell “Mitch” Felton McLain, 70, of Franklin, passed away at his home, Friday, May 15, 2015 with his family at his side.

Born in Griffin, GA, he was the son of the late Andrew Felton McLain and Ruth Harrison McBride. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Nichols. Mitchell was a U.S. Air Force veteran; he received his master’s degree in accounting from Rollins College; he was a CPA for Lockheed Martin; member of Conway United Methodist Church, Orlando; college professor, and substitute teacher with Macon County Schools. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Atlanta Braves; he was a coach for Conway Girls Softball, Orlando for many years; enjoyed bowling, hiking and being outdoors in the mountains of North Carolina. He had a wonderful sense of humor with a smile or joke for everyone. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Verlie Hill McLain; three children, Cheri Adkins (Chris) of Lexington, VA, Deborah Hernandez (Jose) of Orlando, FL and Becky Brooks (Shawn) of Eustis, FL; sister, Andrea Helms of Jonesboro, GA; two brothers, Mark McBride of Suwanee, GA and Stephen McBride of Atlanta, GA and six grandchildren, Sean, Clara, Kayleigh, Colton, Matthew and Connor.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. A reception will be held following the service at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM, one hour prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
