Obituary for Charles William Doering

Charles William Doering, 70, of Canton, NC, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

Born in Union Beach, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles Doering and Teresa Harvey Doering. Charles was a tanker with the US Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and several other commendations. He was a member of the Marine Corps Tankers Association. After Charles and his wife Adele were married they moved from South Amboy, NJ to Macon County where they resided for over 17 years. He enjoyed traveling; especially to Revolutionary War and Civil War sites and volunteered with various organizations. He was a calm, quiet, honorable man and a true American hero.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Adele Spina Doering; son, Tony Sedlak of Franklin; sister, Carol Ann Dickens of St. Pete, FL; nephew, Charles Dickens of St. Pete, FL and several cousins in Wisconsin and New Jersey.

With respect to Charles’ wishes, no formal service will be held. An Open House will be held from 12-3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21st at Charles and Adele’s home.
