Edward Lynn Farmer, 71, of Franklin, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014.

Born in Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late George Arthur Farmer and Myrtle Esther Wilson Farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Byron Ray Farmer and Ralph Farmer and two sisters, Edna Wilson and Peggy Drummond. Ed moved to Kissimmee, FL at an early age, where he attended Osceola High School and attended Valancia Community College and Orlando and Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. After high school, he worked for the State of Florida Road Department on a location survey crew. He began his career in firefighting in 1963 with the city of Kissimmee until April 1971. In May of 1971 began his employment with Reedy Creek Improvement District (Walt Disney World) Fire Department where he remained until retirement in February 2003. Edward was a Driver Operator at the time of his retirement. He was a dedicated firefighter for 38 years. He served in the US Army from December 1965 to December 1967. Edward also owned and operated a fire extinguisher sales and service business; servicing extinguishers and restaurant hood systems. He served as Chairman of Board for Burningtown-Iotla Volunteer Fire Department in Franklin, NC from 2004 to 2012. He enjoyed bluegrass, country-western dancing and camping. He attended Cartoogechaye Baptist Church and will be remembered as a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Taylor Farmer; daughter, Ami Hammer of Alpharetta, GA; brother, Charles Wilson of Apopka, FL; two sisters, Delores Kerr of Kissimmee, FL and Mary Stubbs of St. Cloud, FL and three granddaughters, Meagan Hammer, Lauryl Hammer and Katie Hammer.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Carson Gibson and Pastor Brian Southards will officiate. Burial will be in the Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ken Smith, Joseph Hemphill, Dennis Weathers, Ken Flood, Daniel Jenkins and Randall McCall.

Memorial donations can be made to Cartoogechaye Baptist Church, C/O Ruby Southards, 2304 Allison Watts Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
