Obituary for Elmer Curtis "Curt" Bandy

Mr. Elmer Curtis (Curt) Bandy died at the age of 85 in the Macon Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Home on September 25, 2014 in Franklin, NC.

Curt is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and by his sister-in-law, Frances Bandy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nadine (Dee) Bandy; sisters, Anna Maude Bandy, Sara Virginia Bandy Olive, Shirley Fay Bandy Merrin; and brothers William Clyde Harrison Bandy, George Faris Bandy, James Alva Bandy, John Kenneth Bandy and Charles Robert Bandy.

Curt was born January 5, 1929 in Richlands, Virginia to William Thomas Bandy and Ora Minnie Sparks Bandy. He enlisted in the Army in 1947 and served in the 4th Army, Fort Sam Houston, playing the trumpet in the 365th Army Band. After his Army service, he attended King College in Virginia.

He moved to Orlando, Florida in the early 1950's where he learned to enjoy boating, skiing and camping. He traveled across the country several times, always returning to the Orlando area. Curt was an electrical engineer and worked in that field until retiring in the early 1990's. After he retired, he met Nadine Meyers. They married and moved to Franklin NC and joined the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. Curt served his church with his building skills and knowledge of wood working. In retirement, he became a master wood worker and he loved building furniture, especially his beloved Windsor chairs. He also developed a love of gardening and produced lots of vegetables, many of which he canned himself. He had a particular fondness for heirloom tomatoes. His infectious smile and kindness will be missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Franklin, 26 Church St., Franklin, NC on October 11, 2014 at 2 PM.

Memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church, at the same address, marked for Building Improvement.
