Obituary for George William "Buster" Shields

George William “Buster” Shields, 80, of Franklin, passed away July 7, 2014.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late William Donald Shields and Martha “Mattie” Cunningham Shields. Buster was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; member of Grace Presbyterian Church; was an avid Nascar fan and enjoyed bird watching.

He is survived by his wife, Brandon Christy Shields; three sons, Henry Shields and wife Teresa of Talbott, TN, Andy Shields and wife Kathleen and Allan Shields and wife Diane of Franklin; brother, Newton Shields and wife Sherry of Candler; two sisters, Julia Ann Bradley of Asheville and Susie Dickerson and husband Roy of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Christopher, Amy, Stephen, Mark, Kathryn and Daniel; thirteen great grandchildren, Byron, Caleb, Carolyne, Isabel, Adeline, Wyatt, Nicholas, Abram, Kelsey, Kirsey, Kaleb, Andrew and Anna Kate; special caregivers, Mary Margaret, Lupe and Phoebe and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Holmes and Rev. Albert Gray will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Shields, Stephen Apel, Mark Apel, Waylon Harris, Tyler Holmes, Byron Shields, Kaleb Apel, Nicholas Apel, Christopher Shields, Caleb Shields and Abram Apel.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
